Panhellenic Recruitment Frequently Asked Questions

  • The most important expectation is to have a good attitude. The recruitment process can be a long and stressful one, but it is important to keep positive and trust the Recruitment Counselors and Panhellenic recruitment team. The other important expectation is that you attend ALL recruitment events, including orientation and all events on your schedule each day.

  • Although Panhellenic does not require a specific grade point average (GPA) to participate in Primary Recruitment or COB, each sorority has a minimum grade requirement to be eligible for membership. If you are an incoming freshman, your high school GPA would be reported. If you are a transfer student, your college GPA would be reported. All of the chapter GPA requirements can be found within the Recruitment Booklet on our website.

  • Yes. As long as you are a full-time student at UNCW who identifies and consistently lives as a woman and have not been initiated into an NPC sorority at UNCW or on another campus, you may participate!

  • Each chapter has their own dues requirements. However, they usually will be about $500-700 for your first semester and about $300-$400 for each semester after that. It can sometimes be broken down into monthly payments to make it easier to pay.

*To see the breakdown of dues for individual chapters, please see the Recruitment Booklet or the Financial Information Tab on our website.

  • A recommendation is a letter that is written on your behalf that speaks of your character, accomplishments, grades, and activities from a woman who has already been in that particular sorority. Therefore, it is beneficial to have someone that you know write these.

Letters of recommendation are not a requirement for Panhellenic Recruitment.

  • It is the responsibility of the individual sorority to secure recommendations. Each national sorority has its own guidelines and recommendation forms that its alumna members must use. The UNCW Panhellenic Council does not provide these forms. If an alumna is not familiar with her own sorority’s regulations, she should contact her inter/national sorority to find the form as well as where she can submit the letter of recommendation.

  • Not necessarily. Each sorority has its own policies regarding legacies and you’re encouraged to research that information. Being a legacy to a chapter can be helpful, but will not automatically guarantee you a place in that chapter. Keep an open mind and find the best fit for you!

  • Women who have to miss parts of recruitment will be able to write a letter to the chapter whose round they are missing to explain why they are absent. However, missing a day could greatly impact your chances of being invited back by the chapter if they are not able to meet with you. You will also need to meet with your Recruitment Counselor to make sure you have all the information you need to make selections for the day you missed. Even just missing one round without an excuse will result in being dropped from the recruitment process.

  • No. One individual cannot guarantee you a bid into their chapter. If an active member tells you that you are guaranteed a bid, alert your Recruitment Counselor, in private, and she will handle it accordingly.

  • The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA) is a binding agreement that is signed between preference round and bid day when you give your final preferences for sorority membership. If you sign the MRABA and choose not to join or stay in the sorority from which you received a bid, you cannot join another chapter until the next primary member recruitment period.
